MostlyRender vs Placid

The honest Placid alternative.

Placid is a polished, design-led product. Here’s where we differ — stated as facts — so you can decide for your own workload.

Where Placid is genuinely strong

Placid has one of the most design-refined editors in the category. If pixel-perfect marketing visuals are your top priority, it’s excellent — and we’ll say so.

Where we’re still catching up

We’re newer, and our editor has fewer presets and less design polish than Placid’s. If the deepest design tooling matters most to you today, that’s a fair reason to choose them. If you want 4× the volume at the same price and a meter that never slams shut, that’s us.

Try it on your own render volume.

MostlyRender vs Placid: common questions

Is MostlyRender a good Placid alternative?

Yes, if you want more headroom at the entry price and never want renders to stop. $19 a month gets 2,000 renders on our Starter plan against 500 credits on Placid’s Basic plan, and our paid plans bill overage instead of blocking. Placid’s editor is more design-refined than ours — if that is your priority, it’s a fair reason to choose them.

How does MostlyRender pricing compare to Placid?

MostlyRender: Starter $19 (2,000 renders), Pro $49 (10,000), Scale $149 (50,000), each with a published per-1,000 overage. Placid in our last review: Basic $19 (500 credits, 1 seat), Pro $39 (2,500, 2 seats), Business $89 (25,000, 5 seats) and VIP $249 (100,000, 10 seats). At a steady 25,000 a month, Placid’s Business plan is cheaper per render than ours. Check their current pricing — this reflects our last review (June 2026).

What happens when I hit my limit?

Placid charges no overage: when your credits run out, generation is blocked until the next cycle or an upgrade (previews still work), and unused credits roll over up to twice the monthly budget. On a MostlyRender paid plan rendering continues and the extra renders are billed at a published rate — $5 per 1,000 on Starter.

Can I switch from Placid, and where is Placid ahead?

Yes — rebuild your templates in our editor and call POST /v1/renders or use a signed render URL. Placid is ahead on editor polish, video generation, an embeddable editor SDK, credit rollover, and price per render at its larger fixed tiers. We are ahead on entry-tier volume, a forever-free plan, and not blocking a production pipeline at the cap.

Does MostlyRender have a free tier?

Yes — 100 renders a month, forever, no card. Placid has no permanent free plan; in our last review it offered a trial with a few complimentary credits and did not publish the exact number.
